Sleep latency is the time between trying to fall asleep and falling asleep. It is separate from the time spent preparing for bed. In BedtimePilot, the settling buffer is an editable planning allowance, not a measurement or diagnosis of your sleep latency.
Use it in context
Two ways to apply the plan
Keep settling and wind-down separate
Reading, washing and preparing tomorrow's belongings belong in the wind-down window if they happen before getting into bed. The settling buffer comes afterward. A remembered estimate can help plan an evening, but it cannot establish exactly when sleep began.
Allow fifteen minutes to settle
For a 7 AM wake-up goal and 7 hours 30 minutes of planned sleep, the sleep target is 11:30 PM. A 15-minute settling allowance puts getting into bed at 11:15 PM. A separate 45-minute wind-down starts at 10:30 PM the previous evening.

Build tonight’s timeline
Sleep cycles vary from person to person and across the night. We use 90 minutes as a planning reference, not a measurement of your actual sleep stages.

Important limitations
Results are planning estimates based on your times and adjustable settings. They do not detect sleep stages and are not medical advice. Do not reduce your sleep opportunity just to match a cycle count. Seek professional care for persistent sleepiness or sleep-health concerns.

Does the calculator measure my sleep stages?
No. It uses your clock times and adjustable assumptions to plan sleep opportunity. It does not observe sleep or diagnose a condition.
What if the plan leaves too little sleep?
Review a longer sleep opportunity and the commitments around it. Do not shorten sleep just to match a reference block. Seek individual advice for persistent sleepiness or sleep concerns.
